Grado GW100 Review

Grado GW100 review

There are a number of people who like headphones that come with an open back. If you tend to sweat a lot you will prefer these headphones since they allow your ears to breathe. This also enables you to listen to music for a longer duration without having to take the headphones off. After reading this Grado GW100 review, you will realize just how good these headphones are.

The reason these Grado GW100 headphones have gained so much popularity is because they are considered to be the king of open back headphones. One of the best things about these headphones is they are convenient for people who travel a lot. The headphone is very comfortable to use, irrespective of where you are.

They do come at a hefty price however we would suggest purchasing them because once you get your hands on them you won’t really need to worry about purchasing a new one for a long time.

Advanced Features

There are a number of things to love and not love about this headphone. For the sake of this Grado GW100 review, we will honestly tell you that the pros outweigh the cons in numerous ways thereby making it a great investment.

These headphones are technical so if you are not a tech-savvy person we wouldn’t suggest purchasing them. The wireless feature is easy to get used to once you understand how it operates however it is a little finicky at the start. This makes it difficult for one to understand how to get their way around it. If you are used to using wireless Bluetooth devices it shouldn’t take you long to figure it out. However, if you are not accustomed to using Bluetooth then this could be a little complicated.

We have to admit that since this comes with an open back design, people are forced to listen to the kind of music you are listening to since the audio does escape from the back. Unless you are confident about the kind of music you listen to, you may not want to go outside with these headphones.

These aren’t exactly the most budget friendly headphones you will find so using it as a spare isn’t really an option. If you have your own vehicle to travel then there is no problem using it. Even if you plan on using public transport, it isn’t that annoying since the music that escapes isn’t really loud and no one would actually complain.

Built And Comfort

As we said, one of the reasons we recommend purchasing these headphones is because of its comfort feature that allows the ears to breathe. If you are one of those people who sweat a lot then sweat collection could result in sweat accumulation in the ear cup. This makes it uncomfortable and I constantly have to lift the ear cups and wipe the sweat before going back to enjoying music.

With these headphones you won’t have to worry about the sweat trickling down and getting accumulated. This is because the headphones allow the ears to breathe and prevent you from sweating so much. On the downside the music does escape a bit and outside sound gets in which means that there is no noise cancellation feature or noise isolation with these headphones.

However, the headphones do come with a very strong battery life that allows you to listen to music for about 15 hours and has a 30 hour standby. However, in our experience we would say that it’s not entirely true because these headphones tend to give way in terms of its battery life after a few uses and it lasts about 10 hours on a single charge. This however is better than most headphones in this price range.

Although this model is very similar to the previous Grado models, one of the features that stand out is the fact that these are wireless and open back. While the sound manages to escape quite a lot from these headphones, it still manages to deliver decent quality sound. If you are not just looking for good quality music but also something that is comfortable and relaxing to wear, then these are great headphones to get your hands on.

You cannot expect an uninterrupted music listening experience with these headphones since they are open back however the sonic canvas on which these headphones are built gives you an excellent music listening experience that’s true and natural. You might not want to use these headphones if you live in a crowded environment or you travel by public transport a lot since the melody will be interrupted by the noise over and over again.

It does have a stronger bass in comparison to the other Grado models and there is a better balance between the tunes as well. One of the reasons why people enjoy these headphones so much is because they deliver excellent performance and they manage to blend the noise from outside along with the music perfectly. This means you will not even realize that the outside noise is disturbing you in anyway.

If comfort is what you are looking for and you want to ensure that you feel fresh without sweaty ears then this Grado GW100 is a great headphone. It doesn’t have a noise cancellation feature and the same amount of noise that escapes also gets into the headphones. However, this doesn’t take away from the fact that these headphones are pretty decent.

  • Keeps ears fresh
  • Strong sturdy body
  • Compact design
  • Seamless operational functions
  • Very comfortable to wear for long hours

  • A little difficult to operate
  • Poor battery life
  • Expensive
  • No noise cancellation

Now that we have come to the end of this review, you will agree that these headphones don’t come with multiple features. However, they do come as a wireless device which makes it easy for you to travel around with.

We recommend using these headphones in cities that have higher temperatures because they are perfect for humid weather and they help to keep you cool. If you also have a problem with the suction that is created inside your ears each time you place headphones over them then we would recommend the Grado GW100 because it doesn’t create any suction since the back is open.

If you are fine with sharing your music with others while you travel then this is a great option to invest in. These are not delicate headphones and even if you are not careful with them, they will not break easily. They are great to wear for long durations without feeling any discomfort and they won’t damage your hearing either.
